About

Hello and welcome to Offshore Anime!

The Blog

I’ve been considering starting a blog for quite some time. Considering that you’re reading this, it seems apparent that I’ve done just that.

Obviously, anime will be the subject of most of my posts, but I’m going to do my best to avoid anything episodic in nature. It’s not that I have anything against such blogs, but I want to avoid forcing myself into writing meaningless posts about things I don’t really believe in. This blog is meant to organize the thoughts I have as I watch anime and maybe even allow me to receive some feedback from the online community.

That being said, as much as I want people to read what I write, this blog is just as much for my personal use. My writing skills are somewhat lacking so I’m doing my best to improve them — both for casual and professional reasons. For that reason, I’m always looking for criticism. Believe me, I’m not going to take a critique of my communication skills personally.

What About Me?

I’m Windy, and I am the creator of the blog you see before you.

When I watch anime, I like to look beneath the surface. Why does this character act this way? What is the significance of this motif? What message is the story trying to portray? I don’t mean to sound pretentious, but I just find this analysis makes things a lot more interesting.

This doesn’t mean I don’t enjoy watching lighter anime, but I won’t be blogging about them nearly as much because there just isn’t as much to talk about. The last think I want to do is bore you death with things you’ve heard a million times before. And, as Roger Ebert said, “If something doesn’t make you laugh, no one can tell you why it’s funny.”

To get get a better idea of my tastes, you can check out my list list at http://myanimelist.net/animelist/WindyTurnip.
