Close the Wall Up With My Lost Hours – Summer 2013 Impressions Part 1

I really need to start filtering out some of these shows soon. I went from watching too few shows to watching way too many. I just wish I could find a happy medium.

100% Aryan

Shingeki no Kyojin

I love how this show isn’t even trying to hide its Nazi influences anymore. They were always there on the edge of my vision, but some of the new characters and the German opening have brought it front and center. Anyways, the show has actually shown some significant improvement so far with some rapid character introductions and a normally paced plot. I just hope we don’t hit another standstill like what happened with the last arc.

Please say yes. Please…

To Aru Kagaku no Railgun

I never understood the hate for Touma when I watched To Aru Majutsu no Index a few years ago, but now I fully realize the error of my ways. The sooner he leaves, the better off this show is going to be.

Servant x Service

It’s unfortunate that government bureaucracy is so easy to make fun of. I highly doubt this show is out to make a political statement, but it still manages to be fairly entertaining. I wish the animation was a bit more solid, but I can’t complain too much.

Rozen Maiden

Say what you will about this show, but you can’t deny that it’s absolutely gorgeous. The backgrounds in particular are stunning, and the lighting only adds to the overall mood of the show.

Just in case you missed it:

Oh, and bookstore girl is best girl.

Kiniro Mosaic

I’m only one episode in, but so far I’ve really liked this show. It’s got a more mellow feel to it that separates it from the other slice-of-life anime this season. I can’t help but compare it to One Off which had the same calming vibe. If the end of the episode was any indicator though, I’m afraid that it might lose what made it special, but we’ll just have to wait and see.

Kamisama no Inai Nichigyoubi

This show really likes to go crazy with the lighting effects. That aside, there hasn’t been a whole lot to draw me to this show. That isn’t to say that it’s bad, but I’m having a hard time finding a reason to keep watching. Hopefully something will happen in the next few episodes to change that feeling.

We Madoka now!

Genei wo Kakeru Taiyou

I’ll give it two more episodes before I drop it. Maybe, just maybe, it’ll turn into something worth watching.

Makai Ouji: Devils and Realist

An absolutely infuriating protagonist has put this at the top of my drop list. It gets one more episode before it goes into the trash bin.

Stella Jogakuin Koutou-ka C3-bu

This was yet another show that I expected to drop immediately but was instead pleasantly surprised. I doubt it will be anything special, but I can’t help but find it charming.

Blood Lad

I’m expecting to drop this show in the next few episodes because it doesn’t quite fit my tastes, but I have to give it credit for looking good.

You have no idea.

Kitakubu Katsudou Kiroku

Crappy jokes. Crappy visuals. Crappy characters. Dropped.

My “currently watching” folder has become bogged down by dozens of episodes that I need to work my way through. I’ve already picked through my list once, but I ended up dropping a few shows only to pick up two more. Am I the only one having trouble sifting through all the options this season?

  1. No Free!, WataMote and Kimi no Iru machi for you I see, or perhaps those will be in the part 2 of your 2013 summer impressions. Anyways, Kamisama has indeed pretty visuals, but the strong synopsis doesn’t quite flow through the series just yet. I wonder if events with more impact will occur. I hope so, because that show had the most potential in my view in this season’s line-up.

    • I’m currently watching Free! and WataMote. Because of you, I’ve also added Kimi no Iru Machi to my list. I’m not sure whether I should thank you or hate you for that.
